बचपन में रेखा कान्वेंट स्कूल में जाती थी जहाँ बहुत सारे आयरिश नन (Irish nun) बच्चे पढ़ते थे। कुछ दिनों बाद उन्होंने भी आयरिश नन बनने का फैसला लिया था मगर वित्तीय स्थिति कमजोर होने के कारण, रेखा को तेलुगू फिल्मों में छोटे मोटे काम करने लगी थी। किसी ज़माने में रेखा को सदाबहार अभिनेत्री के रूप में भी जाना जाता था।
