At the moment he accepted that he was going to die on the cold bathroom tile of his college apartment, a life that had revolved around football for Qasim Hatem found a familiar and yet entirely new focus.
In the spring of , Hatem was a year-old defensive lineman at the University of Washington, a 6-foot-3, pound force in the trenches for the reigning Rose Bowl champions. Going into his redshirt junior season for the Huskies, Hatem was beginning to draw the attention of NFL scouts and college football kingmakers.

Qasim&#;s biography book launches next week
A biography book on the life of one of Maldives&#; most successful businessmen and the Speaker of the Parliamentary session which formulated the current constitution of the country, Qasim Ibrahim, will be released on the 10th of this month.
The book is written by experienced journalist and author Mohamed Jameel, marking his third book. His other two books are &#;Orchid&#; on the coup d&#;état of Maldives&#; first President Mohamed Amin Didi and &#;Insaafu&#;, a biography on former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed.
A hardcover edition of Qasim&#;s biography, an audio book and a special website will be launched at the book launching ceremony to be held at Villa College on Monday night.
An exhibition of photographs from various periods of Qasim&#;s life will also be opened that night. The exhibition will be open to the public from am to pm on Tuesday. Visitors of the exhibition will be given a free copy of the book, the organisers said.
The book, which is more than seven hundred pages long, highlights all the main issues that Qasim faced in his personal, business and political life. Colour photos of Gasim, which have not been seen public

Biography of Qasim Ibrahim Launched at Villa College
A biography detailing the life and career of Jumhoory Party leader and former Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim was officially released last night at a special ceremony held at Villa College.
Written by renowned journalist and writer Mohamed Jameel, the biography was launched by the guest of honour, Ilyas Ibrahim, a recipient of the Order of Nishan Izzudin. The event also saw the unveiling of an audio recording of the biography, narrated by SS Media’s CEO Mohamed Asif, alongside a dedicated website for the publication.
The ceremony was attended by former presidents Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, along with senior government officials and veterans from various fields.
The hardcover biography spans over pages and includes photographs, offering an in-depth look into Qasim’s life—his challenges, successes and failures, businesses, social contributions, political career, and personal journey. Speaking at the event, Qasim highlighted the influence of his early upbringing in shaping his character, noting that the principles instilled in him from childhood played a crucial role in his achievements.
