Sir Ellis Clarke (–)
Sir Ellis Emmanuel Innocent Clarke was the second and last Governor General of Trinidad and Tobago and the first President of Trinidad and Tobago. He was one of the principal architects of the Constitution for the Independence of Trinidad and Tobago.

He no doubt suspected that he might be pressed into service by the former prime minister as the constitutional debate sharpened. He was getting tired of the meetings, but indicated that he was available to render advice, if needed. As he said, "I am here, but I am not anticipating anything."
