I
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost. I am hopeless.
It isnt my fault.
It takes forever for me to find a way out.
II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend that I dont see it.
I fall in again.
I cant believe I am in the same place.
But it isnt my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
III

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I saw it there.
I still fall in. Its a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault. I get out immediately.

Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Tapering off of booze, smoking, overeating etc., negative thinking, suicidal thinking, I hoped it would finally help me end my strong attachment/addiction to any one of these life threatening behaviors. Wrong. I kept going down the same street and falling in the same hole. The Twelve Steps is what gave me the coura

Autobiography In Five Short Chapters
Parallel Structure
This is the shortest book that I have ever read. It only has five chapters and each chapter is less than a paragraph. This book has parallel structure. It has repetition of the same pattern of phrases within a sentence. It shows the importance of the main idea. The author did well with using the parallel structure. Even though the book is short, the repetition that she used made me eager to see what happened next. Her writing is short, however, it gave enough to want to read it again and again. I also like this book because I can relate to this story. Chapter one is a story of my first semester in the ECE program. Like how the book stated, I was lost and hopeless. It took my forever to overcome and finish the semester well. Chapter two is like this semester. I fall down and was and is in the same place. I feel like chapter three is going to be what is to come for block three. Then hopefully chapter four will be exactly like block four where I will conquer this program. I usually have hard time finding books that I can connect to, but I was able to connect
Autobiography in Five Short Chapters
A few days ago I came across this lovely quote in a comment to a blog post about change (and why we are so extremely resistant to it). Its from a book, Theres a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self-Discovery, written by Portia Nelson, an American popular singer, songwriter, actress, and author.
It says a lot about how we need to be in a constant “learning-mode” if we wont to grow. It shows that our “experience” plays an important role in how we perceive what is difficult, what is blocking us, what is worth to step over. But most of all, how failure is part of the journey. I’ve decided to post it here, so it will be easier to find it for me in the future when eventually Ill need it :)
