Legendary football coach Tom Landry () was the founding coach of the Dallas Cowboys who brought the team from a winless first season into a dominating force in the National Football League (NFL). Over 29 seasons, Landry guided the Cowboys to 20 consecutive winning seasons, 19 NFL playoff appearances, 13 division titles, five Super Bowl appearances, and two Super Bowl victories. Landry was class president and a member of the National Honor Society at Mission High School and played several positions on the football team, which went undefeated and unscored upon during his senior year of He entered the University of Texas at Austin in , shortly before his older brother Robert was killed during World War II. Interrupting his studies, Landry enlisted in the U.S. Army, and flew thirty missions over Europe in three years, including one in which his plane ran out of fuel and crash-landed, fortunately without injuring Landry.
